Tales of Tehovir

Welcome to the world of Tehovir, where magic comes from Sources, natural features in the landscape. Ranging from deserts to forested hills to rich farmlands and ocean coasts, Tehovir is a land rich in history, culture, and magic, filled with stories of magic, adventure, heroism, and romance. I'm continuing to develop the world as I write it; watch for more information as I come up with it. Most of the novels, so far, can be read in any order; see notes on reading order in the book descriptons.

Tehovir name change - why I changed the former name of this world, and how the new name came about.

Chosen of Azara
Juzeva, a princess of Savaru, sworn to the service of the magical Source Azara, sacrifices everything to stop a war, only to find herself caught in a web of evil and deceit woven by the corrupt sorcerer who wants to claim Azara's power for his own.

Place in the Tehovir series: This is the original Tehovir novel, spanning about 400 years in the continent's history.

Place in the Tehovir series: Concurrent with Chosen of Azara, starting approximately forty or fifty years before the beginning of Chosen. I recommend reading Chosen of Azara first.

The Warrior and the Holy Man
The Path of Haveshi Yellowcrow: When ill fortune strikes Haveshi's clan, the remedy is devastating for the young wife and mother. Guided by the Yellowcrow, god of the forsaken, she sets out on a path to regain what she lost.

The Path of Latan the Clerk: Latan, a lowly clerk in service to the magical Source Tiati, has discovered a historical document of great importance, and is summoned to present his findings to the high priest of the Empire. Accompanied by the warrior named Haveshi Yellowcrow, he embarks on the journey of a lifetime and finds unexpected danger and self-discovery.

Place in the Tehovir series: Two longish short stories that tell the story of a couple of minor historical figures mentioned in the Lucie section of Chosen of Azara. Takes place about 100 years after the beginning of Chosen. I recommend reading Chosen of Azara first, to avoid minor spoilers.

Source-Breaker
After twenty-seven years in the trade, Kaniev the Source-Fixer has suddenly lost his ability to repair magical Sources. He decides it's time to go home and take up fishing, but first, one more repair job lies ahead of him - Source Chaitrasse is experiencing problems. Kaniev's depleted finances and self-confidence demand that this time, he get the job done right.

Fransisa always thought she would be the next High Priestess at Source Chaitrasse, but now her career has come to a dead end. She's struggling to hold on to her place at Chaitrasse when a wandering tradesman appears, claiming that the Source has a problem and he's the one who can fix it. He looks more like a brigand than a powerful wizard or wise scholar, but with an important ceremony coming up, Fransisa decides it can't hurt anything to let him take a look at the Source.

Kaniev's disastrous attempt to repair Source Chaitrasse leads to a sorcerer who is conducting dangerous experiments with magic. Caught in the sorcercer's schemes, Fransisa and Kaniev must overcome their past failures and their differences to stop him before the Sources of magic and all the lands around them are destroyed.

Place in the Tehovir series: In Chosen of Azara, it's mentioned that the only Source in Ceryria is extinct. This is the tale of how that happened. Set a century or so before Chosen of Azara. Stands alone.

A Cure for Nel

Part of the collection A Cure for Nel and Other Stories. When Leya's daughter falls deathly ill, their only hope is the man who abandoned them to follow his dreams of magic. But a deeply corrupted Source and a tower full of heartless wizards stands in Leya's way, and in the meantime she must trust the village witch, who doesn't believe Nel can be saved, and Daris, the gentle blacksmith whose love Leya might never be ready to accept, to keep her daughter alive.

Place in the Tehovir series: Stands alone. Though I'm intrigued by the story of how the Source at Ferin became corrupted, and what if anything can be done to uncorrupt it. So that might turn into something sometime. I think I have an old abandoned novel fragment/idea that just might fit.
