GLOSSARY
trope: a melody with magical properties. Tropes come in two varieties: naturally-occurring, as part of the natural world, and Composed.
chant: a trope or series of tropes intended to be sung.
ritual: the music for a ceremony, such as a wedding.
Arrangement: a set of tropes arranged into a pleasing musical form to be performed as a ritual.
neume: a written musical note. Can be used interchangeably with “note.”
neuming paper: special lined paper for writing music on.
Neumatory: a book containing a collection of written tropes and chants.
Neumatorium: a library of Neumatories.
Rite: a body of tropes, chants, and rules for their use, and religious teachings. The Sirduccean Rite was the original Rite; after millenia of use, it was judged to be filled with errors and corruption, and supplanted by the Oradean Rite.
Skola: a school at which the arts of singing, Arranging, and Composing are taught, along with other subjects. Refers to both the institution and the physical facilities. Often but not always associated with a Shrine.
