Blake doesn't want anyone tagging along on his hunt, but, looking down the barrel of Comfort's revolver, he realizes he doesn't have much of a choice but to let her join him. He definitely doesn't want to fall in love with his unwanted companion and rival, and Comfort returns the sentiment - but they soon find they might not have much choice about that, either.

And just as Blake and Comfort find a hot lead on Wedlin, a thousand-year-old mystery comes to life and changes everything.

Children of the Wildings comes after Daughter of the Wildings and Defenders of the Wildings. It is a self-contained story, but is best enjoyed after reading Daughter and Defenders.

Blake Vendine, mage and bounty hunter, heads into the forbidding Dragonbone Mountains in search of notorious outlaw Wiley Wedlin and the powerful, unknown mage who is controlling the dragons. His search takes him on a journey through unmapped canyons and deserts that tests his skills, determination, and will to survive to their very limits.

In the meantime, the dragons’ master enters into an alliance with hostile A'ayimat to enforce his impossible, ruinous demands on the Wildings settlers. The few mages living in the Wildings - including Comfort, Garis, Vera, Kessie, and Silas and Lainie - must join the fight to protect the settlers' livelihoods and their very lives from the dragon master’s threats.

But even with Blake risking his life to find and capture the dragon master, can a handful of mages and friendly A'ayimat and the non-magical settlers win a fight against dragons and the mage who is powerful enough to command them?
